How does a digital loyalty card for pharmacies & drugstores work?

Pharmacies already have what many local businesses have to build from scratch: proximity, trust and high daily footfall. What they usually lack is a reason for the next visit — especially in dermocosmetics, skincare and wellness, where the local pharmacy competes with mail order and drugstore chains. Here is how a pharmacy could close that gap: with a loyalty pass, a digital stamp card in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. Six qualifying purchases, the next one on the house.

The boundary matters, and it is the real point of this example: stamps are issued exclusively on clearly defined non-medicinal products. No prescriptions, no medicines, no diagnoses — and therefore no incentive to consume medication. The program rewards return visits in the freely chosen range, not illness.

Onboarding happens at the counter: a QR code on a display, the customer scans it with the phone camera, taps "Add to Wallet" — done. No app install, no account, no form. On the next qualifying purchase she shows the card from the lock screen, the team scans it in the staff interface, and the stamp appears within seconds. After the sixth stamp the card artwork switches to the visible reward.

The loyalty profile only needs what the flow genuinely requires: card ID, stamp count, time and place of the stamping action. Product details, prescriptions or consultation content stay out of it — health data enjoys special protection under Article 9 GDPR. Communication through the card stays general too: "Your reward is still available" is something entirely different from a message that implies an illness.

The pharmacy on this page is fictional — the preview above is not: it comes from the same renderer as every pass we ship, the exact pixels that land in your customers' wallets. Drag the slider and watch the loyalty pass fill from the first purchase to the sixth.

For pharmacies & drugstores

Why exactly this configuration?

Non-medicinal products only

The pharmacy decides which product groups take part and writes it into the terms of participation. Medicines and legally excluded products stay outside the program.

QR display at the counter

Getting the card is a single scan — a display in the consultation area, a note on the receipt or a flyer. Same QR code everywhere, same ten-second onboarding.

Only staff issue stamps

Every stamp is tied to a staff account and lands in the log. Cooldowns and time-limited QR codes prevent duplicate stamps and shared screenshots.

Green & sage — branding from the shop floor

Logo, brand colours and program name appear 1:1 in the wallet. The card feels like part of the pharmacy, not a generic loyalty scheme.

In everyday use

What does this look like day to day?

Where the wallet card makes the difference — not theory, but real-world situations.
  1. A dermocosmetics consultation

After buying a participating skincare product, the customer scans the display once and has the loyalty pass in her wallet. The first stamp is issued right at the counter.

  2. Card full after the 6th purchase

The card shows the reward and speaks up via a wallet notification. On the next visit the team redeems it digitally, and the pass restarts at 0/6.

  3. A skincare event day

A broadcast to all active cards announces the dermocosmetics day — general information, with no inference about any individual customer's health.

FAQ

What businesses ask most often.

Are pharmacies even allowed to run a program like this?

In principle yes, but the concrete mechanic has to be reviewed — healthcare carries specific advertising, pricing and data protection rules. This example stays deliberately narrow: stamps only on clearly defined non-medicinal ranges. It does not replace legal advice.

Does it process health data?

No. The stamp program needs the card ID, the stamp count and the information required for a secure stamping action. Diagnoses, prescriptions and medicines do not belong in a loyalty account.

How it works

In three steps to the first stamp.

From the first scan to the redeemed stamp — the whole flow takes just a few seconds.

Step 1

Guest scans the QR code

At the counter, on the receipt or on a table tent: one scan and the stamp card lands right in their wallet. No app. No typing. No hassle.

Step 2

Card stays in the wallet

The card appears right in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet — with logo, stamp count and QR code. It updates automatically after every visit.

Step 3

Staff stamps digitally

Staff scan the QR code in the guest's wallet. The stamp is added automatically and the transaction is saved.
